Kaname to renovate metal roof tile – 25 years durable terms, eying large-scale facilities

(Source: Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, 10th November,2016)

Kaname (Utsunomiya-shi) released longer life metal roof tile “Kanameroof SGL series” whose durable years is 25 years which means 5 years longer life than conventional ones. Corrosion resistance performance is improved by adding magnesium on fluorine Galvalume steel sheet.  Shrines and temples, houses, schools and large‐scale facilities would be targeted.

Kanameroof SGL series perform 3 times more corrosion resistance than conventional series by magnesium element addition. Dimension is 140cm W × 40cm D  and weight is approximately 5 kg per square meter, which weight is almost as light as conventional light weight clay tiles. Kaname produces and sells metal roof tiles “Kanameroof”, whose main customers are in sheet metal industry  transacting metal roof.

Fujikura Rubber Ltd announced magnesium air battery enabling to make 30 smartphones full charged at the same time in case of emergency

(Source: Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, 7th December,2016)

Fujikura Rubber Ltd developed and released Emergency Magnesium Air battery “Watt-Satt” which enables to make 30 smartphones full-charged only by one Watt-Satt, provided 2 liter water such as rainwater or seawater.  Price is 40,000 yen not included tax.

Watt-Satt will start to generate power as soon as water and an accompanying salt are mixed and poured into. Five USB ports enables to charge several smartphones and tablet handsets at the same time in case of disaster occurrence.

Dimension is 212mmW×147mmD×213mmH and weighs approximately 2 kg, which is so compact that it is able to be stowed in A4 size shelf when not operated.

Sales department is strongly recommending that municipalities and enterprises could purchase and prepare against emergency since the guarantee period is 5 years.

MT Energy & Solutions Co.,Ltd developed Acid-battery-type Power generation system in collaboration with carbon nanotube

(Source: ALUTOPIA, December 2016, [Vol.46  No.12 December, 2016])

MT Energy & Solutions Co.,Ltd (MTES) developed both new electrode technology specializing to magnesium electrode and acid battery type power generation system with high flexibility utilizing carbon nanotube air battery electrode on July 2016, which will be intended to realize practical use within 2 years as battery equipment according to power demand such as IoT, EV and Emergency battery and so on.

The main technology exists in an invention of developed electrode specializing to magnesium battery. Thin-film composite material based on MWCNT(Multilayered Carbon Nano Tube) and CMC-A (Carboxy Methyl Cellulose – Acid type) has superior ion permeability and corrosion resistance which enables large specific surface area given by fiber-bonded-3D-mesh-structure and high conductivity. According to MTES demonstration test, 20mm × 50mm size magnesium alloy was used as anode, more than 1,000mA/g electric capacitance was observed in case of using ferric chloride solution as electrolyte.
