The International Magnesium Association (IMA) is pleased to invite abstracts of papers proposed for presentation at IMA’s World Magnesium Conference, 15-17 May 2019, in Budapest, Hungary.

The IMA Program Committee is pleased to invite abstracts of no more than 150 words for a proposed presentation. Abstracts are invited from around the world to address all topics related to metal magnesium.

Presentation Categories

Presentations are being sought on the latest developments in magnesium industry including new or improved materials, processes, applications, markets, recycling, fundamental research, emerging technologies, and all other topics related to magnesium. Papers of the selected abstracts will be published in the World Magnesium Conference Proceedings. Presentation of papers at the event will be 20-25 minutes each, with 5 minutes allotted for questions and answers.

Suggested topics for papers to present at IMA's World Magnesium Conference include, but are not limited to:



Cast and wrought alloy development
Magnesium-based metal matrix composites
Modeling and simulation technologies

Health & Safety
Environmental Regulations
Recycling – End of Life – Land Fill
Life Cycle Assessment

Aerospace applications (cast and wrought)
Automotive applications (powertrain, body, chassis, interior, etc.)
Other transportation applications (railway, bicycle, motorcycle, etc.)
Electronic applications (computers, cell phones & consumer products, etc.)
Energy applications (battery, fuel cell, etc.)
Biomedical applications
Any other new applications

Pidgeon process
Electrolysis process
New extraction processes
New primary magnesium projects

Corrosion and coating solutions
Joining and galvanic protection solutions

Additive manufacturing
All casting processes including semi-solid and continuous processes
Extrusions and forging
Sheet rolling and forming

If your abstract is selected, you will be notified of the decision in November 2018. You will be invited to submit a paper based on the approved abstract. Acceptance of your abstract does not guarantee acceptance of your paper. Specific guidelines for preparation of your paper will be provided at the time of abstract acceptance, along with audio/visual guidelines for your presentation. Final manuscripts are due no later than March 16, 2019. Failure to provide your paper by this deadline may result in cancellation of the presentation.

Criteria for Paper Selection

The IMA Program Committee will invite papers based on abstracts received, using the following criteria:

  • Relevance
  • Accuracy
  • Practicality
  • Appropriate use of case histories, user experiences, and actual industry applications
  • Focus
  • Quality
  • Completeness of abstract
  • Usefulness
  • Noncommercial tone and content
  • Uniqueness
  • Timely submission of application and abstract

Presenters are encouraged to challenge every facet of the magnesium industry to raise its level of expectations, quality and performance.

Important Dates:

  • September 14, 2018 – Call for abstracts open
  • October 31, 2018 November 14, 2018 – Deadline extended for abstract submissions
  • November 12, 2018 – Selection of papers and notice of acceptance
  • March 16, 2019 – Manuscripts due

How to Submit

Abstracts must be submitted in electronic format using the online submission form below. Please submit your 150-word abstract on or before October 31, 2018 November 14, 2018. The abstract must include sufficient detail to permit a thorough review and evaluation of the paper’s proposed content and significance. If you are submitting multiple abstracts, please complete a separate form for each submission.

The official language of the conference will be English. It is preferred that all abstracts and final selected manuscripts be submitted in English. Simultaneous translations (both Chinese-to-English & English-to-Chinese) would be provided at the Conference.
