October 14, 2016, Salt Lake City, Utah – US Magnesium’s previously announced brownfield expansion of its magnesium production facility from 63,500 to 76,500 metric tons per annum has been decelerated. A majority of the equipment for both the chemical and metallurgical portions of this expansion have been procured and installed. Additional spending on equipment installation, however, will occur more gradually than originally planned, and expanded production is not expected before 2018.

Ron Thayer, President of US Magnesium, commented “Our goal to increase the capacity of the plant and to reduce unit cost stays the same. This expansion project remains viable with the continuation of anti-dumping duty orders on imports from China and an ongoing favorable energy outlook for USA manufacturing. We look forward to economic and market conditions that favor the completion of the expansion.”

US Magnesium is one of the Renco Group Family of Companies. The plant in Rowley, Utah processes minerals present in the Great Salt Lake to produce magnesium metal, water purification chemicals, hydrochloric acid, and various salts used in deicing and fertilizer products.
