IMA Participates in AK Magnesium

The AK Magnesium (Arbeitskreis Magnesium) is a long-lasting German independent institution, and have been recently renaimed from AK Recycling. The group had its latest meeting in Feucht/Germany organised by Michael Loos/LMC-Loos Michael Consulting on November 28th.

While IMA members are regular participants, IMA as an Association was not recently represented there. This time, Martin Tauber/Chairman of the European Committee joined Nikolai Prinz/Pilling and Stephan Steinacker/Almamet. Beside other very interesting topics IMA member Helmholtz represented by Bernd Wiese gave a presentation about “Magnesium in medical applications – an overview”. Further Nikolai Prinz (Pilling Kesselfabrik) presented “Tthe development and actual status for crucibles for magnesium”.

The next meeting will be held on 2nd April next year.

IMA joins kick-off workshop about Raw Material needs for Emerging Technologies at DERA

The German Mineral Resources Agency (DERA) kicked-off a process to up-date their earlier study identifying raw material needs for emerging technologies. Based on 2018, Fraunhofer ISI will screen over 160 future technologies, work on 42 technological scenarios, and forecast the raw material need until 2035. 

Among other companies and industry associations, IMA was invited to join the workshop and Martin Tauber, Chairman of the European Committee, gave an input presentation about magnesium. After a short recap of history and the actual global market situation, a technological funnel of possible future technologies was presented.
