Fire at Meridian Magnesium Products of America's Eaton Rapids, Michigan May 2

While many news agencies have reported on the recent fire at the Meridian Eaton Rapids plant, its obviously this fire caused significant damage and disruption to Meridian operations. With this in mind, IMA would like to share its support to Meridian Magnesium Products, hopes for a speedy rebuilding and recovery to normal operations.

Birmingham Airport Helps Students Prepare Magnesium for Take Off

Students from Birmingham City University have visited Birmingham Airport as part of a challenge to showcase the potential uses of magnesium within the travel and aerospace sector.

Set by Birmingham City University and the world’s largest producer of high pressure die cast magnesium components, Meridian Lightweight Technologies (MLTUK), the competition aims to alter widespread perceptions with an interdisciplinary art installation that will eventually go on public display at Birmingham Airport. IMA/CRM Alliance organized joint luncheon event on lightweight

On March 7th, the International Magnesium Association (IMA) and CRM Alliance held a joint luncheon event on "Potential of Magnesium in transport lightweighting" in addition to the IMA European Committee meeting in Brussels.

In this first edition of such a luncheon panel discussion for the IMA European Committee members, we could welcome 4 speakers, who shared their view on the current and future lightweigthing challenge in the actual political and legislative agenda in the EU. Read more»

European Chairman Hosts Sessions at Inauguration Meeting of A New REE Association

On March 29, 2018, the official kick-off event for the GloREIA project took place in Brussels. GloREIA is to become a new, global association for the rare earth industry. IMA was invited to chair the afternoon sessions of the event. Read more»

Martin Tauber Promotes Magnesium at Leading Turkish Universities

The 1st International Symposium on Light Alloys and Composite Materials (ISLAC’18) was organised by Karabuk University in Karabük-Türkiye on 22-24 March 2018. The main goal of ISLAC has been to bring researchers, scientists and experts in universities, institutions, companies, associations and societies to present their recent research and developments on light alloys and composite materials. IMA was invited to speak about “Mg in Europe – Economics, barriers & outlook”, and represented by Martin Tauber.

CRM Day: Challenges to Primary & Secondary Production of CRMs

On 21 March 2018, the first bi-annual CRM Day took place at the Renaissance Hotel in Brussels. The event, entitled “Challenges to Primary & Secondary Production of CRMs”, gathered interested stakeholders and government representatives. The speakers of the two panels identified the main challenges to primary and secondary production of CRMs and opened the floor to a constructive dialogue on ways to address these obstacles.

The event concluded with a presentation by Mr. Martin Tauber, President of the CRM Alliance, on the Charter on Critical Raw Materials Policy, recently developed by the CRM Alliance. The Charter outlines core actions considered relevant for CRMs and aims to provide recommendations to the EU and the wider stakeholder community on the future CRM policy. Read more»
