IMA at GALM Detroit 2017

IMA again promoted the use of Magnesium at the recently held Global Automotive Light-weight Materials (GALM) - Advanced Joining, Forming & Surface Treatment Techniques Conference held in Detroit, Michigan, in late February. IMA maintained a booth in the expo and helped educate conference participates on the benefits of Magnesium use.

The IMA booth was manned by (pictured left-to-right): Ralph Gervasi, IMA; IMA members Nes Abdulrahman, Mag Specialties; Alain Dery, AMACOR; Tom Kurilich, U.S. Magnesium; and Alexander Usatiuk (not pictured).

IMA’s participation in this event is part of the global campaign to promote the use of Magnesium at national and international trade shows. Through IMA’s Americas and European committees, a number of tradeshows are selected each year to increase awareness of Magnesium use in key industries.

IMA Commissions an EU Magnesium Recycling Study to Demonstrate the Sustainability of Magnesium Applications and Avoid Damage to the Metals Growing Reputation

The IMA in Europe believes that a further study needs to be performed by a consultant with relevant competence in the field to prove “with numbers” the inaccuracy of “bio by Deloitte” study. One important mistake in the Charles University MSA study is that the magnesium recycled through aluminium alloys has not been taken in account as functional recycling.

Based on this conviction and a recommendation of IMA’s European Committee, IMA has commissioned a recycling study of Magnesium in the EU.  The study will be conducted by Oakdene Hollins, of Aylesbury England, and will hopefully be available for IMA’s upcoming World Magnesium Conference to be held in Singapore 21-23 May 2017.  The study is being partially funded by a number of European Committee member companies as well as companies in the U.S. Read more...

IMA – EFM Enter Joint European Cooperative Agreement

EFM Board members met with IMA European Committee members on 22 March 2017 and agreed on a joint cooperative agreement between each other’s organizations. The agreement, in principle, allows for each organization to send an observer to the other organization’s meetings, encourage each to not organize events over similar time-frames, cross-promotion as well as speaking engagement at each other’s events, and granting reciprocal member rates for each other’s main conferences.
