IMA at EUROGUSS Germany - Part 2
As you may already be aware, IMA recently participated in the 2018 EUROGUSS that was recently held on 16 - 18 January 2018 in Nuremberg, Germany. The 2018 EUROGUSS is an International Trade Fair for Die Casting Technology, Processes, and Products and brought together some 15,000 visitors. The expo hall was housed in 3 halls and showcased 641 exhibitors.
For the first-time ever, the Magnesium Die-casting awards were presented by the Europaeische Forschungsgemeinschaft (EFM) and IMA jointly. The award entries were judged by an international panel. The final award winners were 1) BMW, 2) STHIL/AUDI, and 3) FUNKE.
The first place was awarded to BMW Leichmetallgiesserei in Landshut/Germany for their Instrument Panel (4,65 kg AM60) using a double cavity diecasting process saving 4,5 kg material per injection. Function integration and safety of the part are further common positive features of using magnesium in such applications.
Collaboration between STHIL and AUDI resulted in the second place for their upper cross support part (1,244 kg AZ91) in an Audi A8. This part succeeded to replace an earlier aluminum version with a 28% of weight saving and is produced on a hot chamber machine.
An innovative E-Bike Multibody part (2,48 kg Elektron21) from FUNKE was awarded third place based on a high degree of safety and function integration.
The awards were presented during a dedicated Magnesium Day at the parallel event “Deutsche Druckgusstag” and presented by Christoph Schendera (EFM) and Christian Payn (IMA European Committee Chairman). Following are the Official Press Pictures of the Award Ceremony:
