MAGNESIUM RESOURCES

The IMA welcomes your use of the database and encourages you to visit the entire IMA site-- the official website for IMA members. IMA serves as resource of general information - magnesium mechanical and physical databases.

  • Mechanical Properties
The mechanical properties, especially of die cast alloys, depend strongly on the actual fabrication route and the fabrication variables involved. Properties of die cast alloys are based on separately die cast test bars, if not otherwise stated. The given property values must be understood as examples of what might be expected when casting parts with cross-sections, structure and quality comparable to those used bars.

  • Physical Properties
Magnesium is a silvery white metal. It has a valence of two (2). The crystal structure for magnesium is dense hexagonal. The atomic number for magnesium is 12, and it belongs to group 2A of the periodic table.
