Celebrating its 75th year, the International Magnesium Association (IMA) is pleased to invite abstracts of papers proposed for presentation at IMA’s World Magnesium Conference, May 16-18, 2018 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

The IMA Program Committee is pleased to invite abstracts of no more than 150 words for a proposed presentation. Abstracts are invited from OEMs, industry practitioners and researchers from in and around the magnesium industry.

Presentation Categories

Presentations are being sought on the latest developments in magnesium technology including new or improved materials, processes, applications, markets, magnesium research, and emerging technology. It is all about magnesium and related information. The 2018 World Magnesium Conference will focus on technical, commercial, practical, operational, and theoretical nature.

Papers of the selected abstracts will be published in the World Magnesium Conference Proceedings. Presentation of papers at the event will be 20-25 minutes each, with 5 minutes allotted for questions and answers.

If your abstract is selected, you will be notified of the decision in January 2018. You will be invited to submit a paper based on the approved abstract. Acceptance of your abstract does not guarantee acceptance of your paper. Specific guidelines for preparation of your paper will be provided at the time of abstract acceptance, along with audio/visual guidelines for your presentation. Final manuscripts are due no later than March 16, 2018. Failure to provide your paper by this deadline may result in cancellation of the presentation.

Criteria for Paper Selection

The IMA Program Committee will invite papers based on abstracts received, using the following criteria:

  • Relevance
  • Accuracy
  • Practicality
  • Appropriate use of case histories, user experiences, and actual industry applications
  • Focus
  • Quality
  • Completeness of abstract
  • Usefulness
  • Noncommercial tone and content
  • Uniqueness
  • Timely submission of application and abstract

Presenters are encouraged to challenge every facet of the magnesium industry to raise its level of expectations, quality and performance.

Important Dates:

  • November 9, 2017 - Call for papers open
  • December 8, 2017 - Deadline for abstract submissions
  • January 2018 - Selection of papers and notice of acceptance
  • March 16, 2018 - Manuscripts due

How to Submit

Abstracts must be submitted in electronic format using the online submission form below. Please submit your 150-word abstract on or before December 8, 2017. The abstract must include sufficient detail to permit a thorough review and evaluation of the paper’s proposed content and significance. Applications and abstracts received after December 8, 2017 may not be considered. If you are submitting multiple abstracts, please complete a separate form for each submission.

The official language of the conference will be English. It is preferred that all abstracts and final selected manuscripts be submitted in English. Simultaneous translations (both Chinese-to-English & English-to-Chinese) would be provided at the Conference.
