August 5, 2009

Wauconda, Illinois- The International Magnesium Association (IMA) has revealed additional details for its Sixth Magnesium Health & Safety Seminar, scheduled for October 6, 2009 at the GKSS Research Center, Institute for Materials Research Center for Magnesium Technology in Geesthacht, Germany. The seminar, which will provide an excellent opportunity to learn the correct way to safely handle magnesium and magnesium alloys, offers magnesium production personnel the opportunity to exchange experiences and practical information, as well as discuss the means and measures for the implementation of safety standards.

Educational sessions will cover a variety of topics devoted to health and safety information specifically targeted toward the magnesium industry. Sessions, presented by recognized industry experts, include Current Standards & Regulations, Cover Gases, Fire-Fighting Agents, Recycling, Melting, and Machining. The seminar also will include practical demonstrations and video case studies focused on the safe handling of magnesium while providing a safe and environmentally friendly operational atmosphere for industry personnel. In addition, the program will include a laboratory tour of the Magnesium Innovation Centre at the GKSS Research Centre in Geesthacht.

“The European Magnesium Health & Safety Seminar is appropriate for employees who handle magnesium, including those new to the industry as well as veterans looking for a refresher in safety best practices,” said IMA Executive Vice President Greg Patzer. Foundry and diecast managers, production managers, foremen and line staff, planning engineers, fire fighters, magnesium recycling managers and safety staff, as well as steel and chemical industry personnel will find the program valuable and informative.

Details, including a registration brochure available for download, can be found at www.IMAseminar.org. Discounts for IMA members, early, and group registrations are available. The early registration discount deadline is September 30, 2009. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-paid basis.
